Separate the material
Group branches, leaves, and bagged green waste apart from lumber, fencing, concrete, soil, plastic, and household items. Mixed piles are harder to estimate and may need different handling.
Cut only when it is safe
Ask the provider about preferred branch lengths. Do not cut trees, use unfamiliar power tools, or handle storm-damaged limbs beyond your experience.
Bag light material securely
Use sturdy bags for leaves and small clippings when appropriate. Avoid overfilling them. Wet green waste is heavier, so mention recent rain or irrigation.
Check the path to the truck
Measure gates, move garden furniture, secure pets, and point out steps or soft ground. Keep branches away from utility equipment and public walkways.
Confirm local restrictions
Municipal green-waste programs and transfer facilities set their own rules. Check the current responsible authority for material limits and accepted preparation before choosing an option.
