Measure the item and the full exit path. A sofa that fits the room may not fit the stair landing, elevator, or front door.
Measure the furniture at its widest points
Record width, depth, and height. For sofas, include arms and fixed feet. For dressers, remove loose drawers only if it is safe and note any attached mirror.
Measure every pinch point
Check the room door, hallway turn, stair width, landing, elevator opening, building entrance, gate, and truck approach. The smallest point determines the plan.
Check what can come apart
Look for removable legs, shelves, leaves, bed rails, and hardware. Keep fasteners in a labeled bag. Do not disassemble structural or powered furniture without the manufacturer’s instructions.
Clear and protect the route
Remove rugs, décor, pet gates, and small tables. Tell the provider about stairs, fragile flooring, building hours, loading zones, or elevator reservations before arrival.
Send a useful photo set
Photograph the full item, the tightest turn, the exit, and the path to parking. Add one photo with a tape measure when scale is hard to judge.
