Mark simple zones
Use clear areas for keep, family review, donate or sell, and remove. Keep the garage door track, electrical panel, water heater, and walking path unobstructed.
Pull out restricted material
Set aside paint, oil, fuel, pesticides, chemicals, propane cylinders, ammunition, and unidentified liquids. These materials need their own local disposal route and should not enter a general haul-away pile.
Group by handling needs
Keep loose tools in sturdy containers, flatten only clean cardboard, and separate sharp or broken items. Tell the provider about heavy shop equipment or anything anchored to the building.
Photograph the whole volume
Take one image from the driveway, one from each back corner, and close photos of the largest items. That gives a better sense of volume than a tight photo of one pile.
Preserve access
Move vehicles, open the gate, and identify legal parking. If a shared driveway or HOA rule affects loading, resolve it before the appointment window.
