The appliance should be empty, accessible, and properly disconnected before a removal crew handles it.
Confirm who disconnects it
Haul-away and utility disconnection are different jobs. Arrange qualified help for gas, hard-wired electrical, or plumbing work when required. Do not assume the removal crew performs that work.
Empty and dry the appliance
Remove food, dishes, lint, water, and loose shelves. Defrost freezers early enough for ice and water to drain safely, then wipe them dry.
Secure loose parts
Tape or remove loose shelves, trays, cords, and hoses after disconnection. Keep doors controlled during movement without creating a tripping hazard.
Measure the route
Record appliance dimensions and the width of doors, hallways, stairs, and gates. Note counter overhangs, railings, or doors that may need temporary removal by the appropriate person.
Describe special conditions
Tell the provider about stairs, stacked units, built-in panels, narrow side yards, elevator rules, or a long carry to the truck.
